About Chicha Morada:

Chicha Morada is a Washington, D.C.–based band devoted to psychedelic cumbia and Peruvian chicha. Drawing inspiration from the 1960s and 70s psychedelic cumbia movement and the raw, urban spirit of Lima’s popular chicha scene, the group crafts a vibrant and immersive sound.

Blending reverb-drenched electric guitars, hypnotic synthesizers, driving percussion, timbales, trumpet, and trombone, their music delivers an infectious, dance-driven energy. While honoring the legacy of chicha pioneers, Chicha Morada pushes the genre forward through original compositions and fresh sonic textures, creating a dynamic bridge between Latin American traditions and the contemporary independent music scene in Washington, D.C.
