Led by drummer Dennis Bulhões — one of Brazil’s most celebrated percussionists — this trio weaves the rhythmic soul of the Brazilian northeast with the depth of contemporary jazz. Joined by Grammy-winning bassist Eduardo Belo and guitarist César Garabini, the music is precise, warm, and alive.

About Dennis Bulhões:

Dennis Bulhões carries a title earned through competition, not ceremony: XI Batuka! Master, awarded after winning Batuka! Brasil in 2010 — the most prestigious international drumming contest in Brazil.

Born and raised in João Pessoa, in Brazil’s vibrant northeast, Bulhões began his formal music education at seven years old at the Federal University of Paraíba, where he later studied classical percussion under Professor Francisco Xavier and earned his Bachelor of Music in 2009. That same year, he won the public competition for Technical Musician at UFPB, securing a tenured position as the university’s professional percussionist, drummer, and instructor — a post he held until 2019. Along the way, he also placed as a national semifinalist in the Odery and Modern Drummer Festival contest.

His performing life has taken him across Brazil, Europe, and Africa, sharing the stage with Sivuca, Maria Creuza, Marinês, Lucy Alves, Letieres Leite, Oswaldinho do Acordeon, Silvério Pontes, and the Paraíba Symphony Orchestra, among others.

In 2014, Bulhões moved to New York to pursue a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies at Queens College, immersing himself in the city’s scene alongside Hélio Alves, Chico Pinheiro, Ari Hoenig, Yotam Silberstein, and Paul Socolow. He currently works as a freelance musician and educator, and is completing two books on Brazilian drumming.
