About Jarana Beat:

Jarana Beat is a New York–based, flexible-format world-music collective led by composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sinuhé Padilla-Isunza. A double nominee at the 2020 Independent Music Awards and winner of the 2015 Mexican Music Award for Best Contemporary Folk Band, the group has been bringing the vibrant, often overlooked sounds of Mexico to international audiences since 2007.pennlivearts

Blending Mexican folk traditions with Afro-Indigenous and Afro-American influences, Jarana Beat creates an exuberant cross-cultural sound rooted in styles such as Son Jarocho, Son Guerrerense, and Son Huasteco. Its live performances combine traditional instruments, powerful vocal harmonies, and the percussive zapateado footwork of dancers, transforming the stage into a joyful, participatory celebration of music, movement, and community.

Jarana Beat has appeared at major cultural stages and recently performed at WNYC’s New Sounds and Lincoln Center’s Día de Muertos programming, continuing to connect Mexican musical heritage with audiences across New York and beyond
