πŸ₯Ÿ Feb 24–Mar 2: A 3D banana walks into a bar in Jackson Heights

Hey neighbor!

Notice anything different up top? That’s right, we got ourselves a shiny new logo. We’re finally going pro over here (well, kind of – I’m still writing this in my pijamas). That said, we always loved the idea of a logo designed by someone from the neighborhood. So consider this a soft call-out: if you’re a local artist with ideas, or you’d just love to see a community logo competition happen, hit reply and let us know. Enough interest and we’ll make it a thing. 🎨

Hope you stayed warm and safe during that wild blizzard. If you missed it (how?!), the beautiful snow-covered Paseo Park illustration below by local artist Mary Hawkins (@maryhawkinsnyc) will give you the idea. Mary was one of 26 Queens artists who painted a granite block for our #PaintingPaseo mural project last year. Her block is on 80th Street!

Big night tonight. Our dinner club is ON, and the table is set. Already full for this round, but the next dinner is Wednesday March 25th. Head to dinnerclub.jacksonheightsinsider.com to grab a spot before it fills up.

Ramadan Mubarak to everyone beginning the month of Ramadan! Wishing you a beautiful and restful month. πŸŒ™

🏘️ Neighbor Shoutouts

Big thanks to John Capouya, Alice Crespo, Diana Chery and Nikki Amberstone for supporting the newsletter. It means a lot! If you want to chip, you can support us here.

Alice has drawn our attention to Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC, a wonderful organization that creates recreational activities and opportunities for people with disabilities right here in our community.

And fellow neighbor Nikki Amberstone wants to spread the word about two local gems. First, Apicha Community Health Center, which provides affirming medical care, including specialized support for trans individuals. Second, Second Story Movement, a pilates & yoga studio on 37th Ave between 81st and 82nd run by local angel Elaine O’Brien. Nikki says the studio and its community are incredibly welcoming. When she lost belongings in a house fire, the people there literally gave her the clothes off their backs. That’s Jackson Heights for you. ❀️
