DESCRIPTION:Every story has a location—but that location can function as more than just a backdrop. \nIn this workshop\, we will explore how to transform your story’s location into a character that propels the narrative—or even helps to generate the plot. We will begin by analyzing writing that uses location effectively and then respond to prompts that activate what you have learned. Participants can choose to share what they have written in class and receive feedback from the instructor and other students.\nBio:\nRadha Vatsal is the author of No. 10 Doyers Street and the Kitty Weeks mystery novels set in World War I-era New York. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times\, The Atlantic\, the Los Angeles Review of Books\, Lit Hub\, CrimeReads\, Scroll.in and elsewhere. She has designed and led writing workshops at the Queens Public Library. \nBorn and raised in Mumbai\, India\, she earned her Ph.D. in Film History from Duke University. She was a 2025-26 Fellow at the CUNY Writers’ Institute and lives in New York City.

After two albums built around a rotating cast of guest vocalists\, this new phase marks Cruz’s arrival as a singer in his own right. Their debut single\, the three-song El Prisma (2023)\, captures the Quartet’s raw\, urban\, and virtuosic sound\, one critic called it among the most interesting sets at the festival where they premiered it. \nAbout Sebastián Cruz: \nSebastián Cruz is a Colombian singer-songwriter and guitarist\, a leading voice in the new Colombian music movement since settling in New York in 1997. His sound moves between tradition and experimentation\, marked by rhythmic ingenuity and lyrical depth. He draws from folkloric icons like Peregoyo and El Burro Mocho\, as well as modern masters like Bill Frisell and Marc Ribot. \nCruz got his start in Bogotá’s 1990s rock scene\, performing at major venues and the first editions of Rock al Parque\, Latin America’s largest free rock festival\, with bands El Zut and Los del Centro.
