SUMMARY:Film Fatales NYC Artist Connection
DESCRIPTION:A cocktail gathering for all filmmakers and film lovers!\n\n\nJoin Film Fatales members for an in-person cocktail gathering in New York to prepare for some good vibes as we head into summer. Where better to celebrate cinema than at the Museum of the Moving Image? \nThis year we are extending an invitation to our extended community of filmmakers\, film lovers\, and partner filmmaker groups\, as we uplift each other with like-minded folks interested in amplifying underrepresented voices in the industry… and have some fun in the process! \nOur spring time theme is Let’s Get Loud! From stripes to florals to funky designs – come rocking your favorite patterns or color combos. There will be a discounted cash bar with beer\, wine\, cocktails\, non-alcoholic drinks\, and snacks. We will be making a toast and taking a group photo around 7pm. \nJoined by members of A-Doc\, AWFC\, AWD\, BFS\, BGDM\, DPA\, Film Fatales\, ICF+C\, NYWIFT\, WIP\, and WMM \, with support from ShotDeck and Zeiss\, this in person mixer is for everyone interested in amplifying filmmakers of all marginalized genders. \nAccessibility Notes: The venue is fully ADA accessible. Capacity is limited and guests must RSVP separately in advance. See you there! \n\n\n\nThe Museum of the Moving Image is a media museum located in Queens. It is the only museum in the U.S. that explores the central technology of the present moment. Screens are all around us. We use them to educate\, entertain\, and communicate. The moving image—encompassing film\, television\, video games\, and other forms of digital media—shapes how we see and feel the world. With exhibitions and screenings on the art\, history\, technique\, and science of the moving image\, MoMI presents the real and imagined worlds of our past\, present\, and future. With ground-breaking education programs\, digital literacy initiatives\, and cutting-edge media labs\, MoMI is not just a museum but also a place where we can all make sense of the forces and experiences that create our shared reality. \n\n\n\nA-Doc is a national network that works to increase the visibility and support of Asian Americans in the documentary field. A-Doc is committed to sharing ideas and resources\, providing mutual support and mentorship\, and advocating for equity and diversity in the production and distribution of non-fiction storytelling. \n\n\n\nAWD is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of women and gender non-binary directors working in the entertainment industry. \n\n\n\nThrough advocacy\, support\, and education\, the Alliance for Women Film Composers aims to increase the visibility of women composers active in media scoring. Our mission is to provide education\, community building experiences and pipeline programs in the film industry for people of African descent. We facilitate a variety of affordable programs and events including grants\, mentorship opportunities\, film screenings\, panel discussions\, networking mixers\, access to our jobs board and professional development workshops. \n\n\n\nBrown Girls Doc Mafia (BGDM)’s mission is to nurture\, amplify\, and invest in the creative capacity and professional success of BIPOC* women and nonbinary people working in the documentary industry. \n\n\n\nThe Documentary Producer Alliance‘s mission is to amplify the voice of documentary producers worldwide by educating the industry about the essential role that producers play from development through financing\, production\, and distribution; and by setting standards for inclusive\, sustainable\, and equitable documentary filmmaking practices based on research\, collective experience\, and input from industry stakeholders. \n\n\n\nFilm Fatales is a non profit arts organization which advocates for parity in the film industry and supports an inclusive community of over a thousand feature film and television directors of all marginalized genders. Together\, we can build a more equitable industry for us all. \n\n\n\nThe International Community of Female⁺ Cinematographers (ICF⁺C) is a collective of professional female cinematographers from around the US and the world\, who provide each other with community support and industry advocacy. \n\n\n\nNew York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) works in collaboration with the moving image industry and supports women at every stage of their careers. NYWIFT energizes filmmakers by illuminating their achievements\, presenting training and professional development programs\, awarding scholarships and grants\, and providing access to a supportive community of peers. \n\n\n\nWomen Independent Producers was founded in 2016 as a collective to foster collaboration\, mentorship\, and shared resources among women producers\, WIP provides a platform for networking\, skill-building\, self-care and advocacy. Members are primarily independent producers\, spanning both emerging and seasoned professionals\, and who work on a wide range of media projects\, from feature films to documentaries and digital content. WIP’s mission centers on amplifying women’s voices in the industry and creating opportunities for female-led projects to thrive. \n\n\n\nEstablished in 1972 to address the under and misrepresentation of women in media both behind and in front of the camera\, Women Make Movies is a non-profit media arts organization dedicated to seeding the industry with tomorrow’s leaders and advancing gender and racial equity in the documentary film industry. WMM does this by facilitating the production\, promotion\, distribution\, and exhibition of independent films and media by and about women through internationally recognized Distribution Services and a Production Assistance Program. \n\n\n\nShotDeck is the world’s largest library of fully searchable high-definition cinematic images. Founded by Lawrence Sher\, ASC and recipient of the 2022 Cine Gear Technical Achievement Award\, ShotDeck was built by filmmakers for filmmakers. The Terraza Big Band features many of New York’s most in-demand jazz musicians and can be heard at venues throughout New York City in addition to its monthly residency at Terraza 7\, where the ensemble “injects a liberated\, interactive atmosphere into the bar…the audience was fully onboard\, but the ideas were entirely new” (New York Times). The band’s debut album\, One Day Wonder\, was released in May 2019 and received a Grammy nomination that year in the category of “Best Large Jazz Ensemble”. This recording was hailed by Jazz Timesas being “the sort of debut that should make big-band fans not only take notice but hunger for more.” \nAbout Michale Thomas: \nGrammy-winning saxophonist\, composer\, and arranger Michael Thomas has been an active member of the New York City jazz community since arriving in 2011. SUMMARY:Visibility Brigade - Jackson Heights
DESCRIPTION:The Visibility Brigade aka Rush Hour Resistance was founded in 2020 to provide physical messaging in the real world. We remind everyday people that they are not alone in these unprecedented times. \nWE PROVIDE THE MESSAGING\, YOU JUST NEED TO SHOW UP WITH YOUR PASSION! Please visit https://visibilitybrigade.com for more info. \nNote: For safety reasons\, we do not publicly share the location of this activity. If you are not already involved with Jackson Heights Indivisible\, we will ask you to join us at one of our biweekly meetings so we can get to know each other a bit before joining us on an outreach shift. You can register for an in-person meeting or a Zoom meeting.
