SUMMARY:Eric Stern’s Cuban Jazz Project
DESCRIPTION:A vibrant fusion of Cuban timba and American jazz\, this trio blends infectious dance rhythms with bold improvisation and harmonic depth\, creating a fresh sound that honors both traditions while pushing them forward. \n7:30 PM (First Set) \n9:30 PM (Jam Session) \n10:30 PM (Second Set) \nAdmission: $20 cover charge for mezzanine seating · $10 for jammers \nFeaturing:\nEric Stern – Piano\nGeorge Greenhill – Drums\nJohn Benitez – Bass \nAbout: Eric Stern’s Cuban Jazz Project: \nIt is a new trio. The project aims to seamlessly blend two genres of music – Cuban timba\, the cuban dance music of Elito Reve\, Alex Abreu\, Los Van Van\, and others\, and American jazz\, which Eric grew up with in Brooklyn – the music of Thelonious Monk\, Charlie Parker\, Bud Powell\, and the great American Songbook. By incorporating jazz improvisation and harmonic innovation into the format of a standard cuban timba band\, never losing danceability or rhythmic sensibility\, the project blends both timba and jazz into one music\, honoring both traditions while moving the music forward\, together. \nAbout Eric Stern: \nEric Stern is a pianist and composer based in New York City. Eric plays a variety of genres of music\, including latin jazz with John Benitez\, salsa with Carabali\, modern jazz with Noah Myers’ Sonder\, hip-hop with Good Lives Crew\, and straight-ahead jazz with a myriad of young artists. Eric’s ability to blend these influences seamlessly into any performance\, while staying authentic to each genre\, has allowed Eric to quickly establish himself as a rising star in the NYC music scene.

SUMMARY:Julian Miltenberger Quartet— Jazz
DESCRIPTION:An evening of contemporary jazz led by drummer and composer Julian Miltenberger\, where Afro-Caribbean rhythms\, deep groove\, and modern improvisation converge in a dynamic\, richly textured quartet sound. \n7:30 pm to 8:30 pm (First Set)\n9:30 pm to 10:30 pm (Second Set)  \nAdmission: $20 Cover charge Mezzanine \nFeaturing:\nGabriel Chakarji | Piano\nOr Bareket | Bass\nSalim Charvet | Saxophone\nJulian Miltenberger | Drums\, Composition & Direction \nAbout Julian Miltenberger: \nJulian Miltenberger is a drummer\, composer\, and rhythmic architect from Philadelphia\, PA\, now based in Brooklyn\, NYC. A product of the Harvard/Berklee dual degree program\, he studied under the mentorship of master saxophonist and bandleader Yosvany Terry\, whose influence shaped Julian’s deep commitment to the African diaspora as a living musical force. That commitment took him beyond the classroom — to Cuba and West Africa — where he conducted firsthand research into the folkloric percussion traditions that now form the bedrock of his artistic voice. \nJulian’s work is rooted in reverence and propelled by curiosity. He approaches the drum set as a vessel for the full breadth of Afro-Caribbean rhythm\, translating the vocabulary of traditional percussion into a modern framework that embraces collective improvisation\, metric complexity\, and expansive sonic texture. The result is music that honors its sources without being bound by them — a mosaic where ancient groove meets contemporary harmonic and structural thinking. \nFor this project\, Julian is joined by three exceptional voices: Salim Charvet on saxophone\, Gabriel Chakarji on piano\, and Or Bareket on bass. \nAs a sideman\, Julian has performed alongside some of the most celebrated names in jazz and Latin music\, including Yosvany Terry\, Edmar Castaneda\, Vijay Iyer\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Lucía\, Godwin Louis\, Diego Urcola\, Darren Barrett\, Manuel Valera\, Axel Tosca\, Samuel Torres\, Wayne Tucker\, and Ricky Rodriguez. He is a regular member of the Birdland Latin Jazz Orchestra\, and has appeared with the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the Boston Pops.

SUMMARY:SCHOOL SHOWS: Holi: Colorful Indian Dance
DESCRIPTION:Ullas\, Sahbhaajan & Prem!\nA Holi dance celebration of Joy\, Sharing\, & Love\nFriday\, April 24\, 2026 \nCelebrate Holi with ullas (joy)\, sahbhaajan (sharing) & prem (love) at our dance concert! We invite students to experience India’s rich folk culture as Abha B. Roy and Srijan Dance Company perform lively dances from throughout India. \nOur Holi show begins as two friends travel across India\, where they meet their co-traveler\, a writer\, Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. She tells them about story that is depicted in our dance drama—in the northern state of India called Punjab\, our travelers see giddha folk dance performed to welcome spring. The friends then go to the Eastern state of India called Bengal\, where they see the local spring festival dances and customs. Lastly\, they come to Uttar Pradesh\, which lies in-between Punjab and Bengal and they enjoy a classical dance composition as well as a traditional Barsané folk dance. \nAbha B. Roy\, the artistic director of Srijan Dance Center and master teaching artist\, has led the Flushing Town Hall Annual Diwali and Holi programs since their beginnings. A master of Kathak dance\, she studied under the guidance of the late great Guru Kundan Lal Gangani and attained professional precision under the training of Pt. Durgalal when she completed her specialization in Kathak Kendra\, New Delhi. She represented the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and has taught and performed in South America\, Guyana\, Suriname\, Trinidad and Tobago. She has also performed throughout Europe and venues such as Lincoln Center\, Flushing Town Hall\, Queens Museum\, NYC Cultural Festival\, and many more. \nFormat: 60 minutes\, in-person performance at Flushing Town Hall’s theater\nGrade Levels: recommended for grades 3-8\nTickets: ALL tickets $10 per person \nThis event is generously sponsored by The Guru Krupa Foundation.
