Our Jazz Jams are open to professional jazz musicians\, graduate students studying jazz\, music educators and serious hobbyists\, our Monthly Jazz Jams invites musicians to perform at Flushing Town Hall. All are welcome\, regardless of instrument (vocalists\, too!). Our Steinway baby grand and drum kit are available at each Jam. FTH’s Jazz Jam house band leader\, Carol Sudhalter\, plays flute\, baritone and tenor sax and has been running our Monthly Jazz Jams since 2016. She is joined by Joe Vincent Tranchina (piano)\, Eric Lemon (bass) and Scott Neumann (drums). Each house band member brings over 40 years of Jazz experience to the jam! \nPlay Jazz? Performances begin promptly at 7 PM\, offering a dynamic hour of poetry and spoken word. Everyone is welcome to enjoy program highlights by tuning in for free between 10 AM and 8 PM by visiting Culture Stream.  \nIn-Person Viewing Party  \nAll current and new FTH Circle of Friends members are invited to our in-person Culturethon! Viewing Party from 6 to 8 PM. Set in the FTH gallery\, we will stream the final program highlights over light refreshments. If you want to join us but aren’t yet a member\, you can become a member today for as little as $50! For nonprofits like FTH\, our fiscal year closes June 30\, which means June 16 is the perfect moment to come together and help us start our next chapter strong. Give your gift in person that day and receive a complimentary tote bag and Aigner Chocolates treat\, while supplies last. \nAbout Culture Stream  \nIn the earliest days of the pandemic\, when FTH was unable to welcome the community to our building\, we understood that we would have to find a way to deliver our cultural programs directly into homes. Within a month\, we were offering online programs for educators\, children\, and families near and far. Even after the world reopened\, we knew that not everyone could make every presentation. We took the lessons from lockdown and launched Culture Stream\, where people can watch live performances and catch up on past shows for a small fee. Culture Stream has allowed us to bring our stage into homes\, schools\, and offices\, and to branch out across the world—we have reached all continents except Antarctica.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth Storytelling Celebration with April Armstrong
DESCRIPTION:On June 19\, 1865\, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation\, enslaved people in Galveston\, Texas\, learned they were free. Juneteenth\, as it’s now known\, is celebrated annually to honor the end of legal enslavement in the United States and a tradition of gathering\, remembering\, and telling the truth and stories about how we arrived in this moment. \nFlushing Town Hall marks the holiday with an evening of storytelling and song led by April Armstrong\, actress\, singer\, and National Storytelling Network award winner whose work has long centered the histories and voices of the African diaspora. Armstrong draws on folk traditions\, spirituals\, and the oral storytelling forms that have carried Black history across generations. She will be joined by a trio of musicians: Mario E. Sprouse (piano/keyboard)\, Ayodele Maakheru (guitar and banjo)\, and Napoleon Revels-Bey (drums). \nAll are welcome. We hope to see you there.
