SUMMARY:Pahua Live In Concert
DESCRIPTION:Standing Room General Admission: $25 | $20 Members \nBalcony Seats: $30 | $25 Members \nBox Seats: $35 | $30 Members \nWe are going to dance the night away! The only seating for this concert will be in FTH’s boxes and balcony. Please purchase tickets accordingly. \n“Pahua finds the perfect balance between Latin Rhythm and electronic music as she navigates a vibrant sonic landscape.” —Color and Sound  \nThis will be an incredible evening of global bass and Latin fusion! Pahua (’/pa-wah/) is a singer\, composer\, percussionist\, DJ\, and producer from Mexico City who mixes Caribbean and folkloric beats with electronics and percussion\, creating a border-busting dance-party soundtrack rooted in ancient rhythms and melodies. From Brazilian funk and dancehall to South American folkloric music\, cumbia\, and global bass\, Pahua’s music will keep you on your feet all night long! \nWith a nuanced approach to Folktronica\, this co-founder of the neocumbia experimental Sotomayor Music project delves into tribal Latin rhythms\, texturing them with airy house music\, while her arrangements—packed with great vibes—reveal cumbia\, Afrobeat\, kuduro\, dembow\, and dancehall influences. Her voice floats amidst these finely tuned sounds\, sometimes as an airy whisper and at other times as a front-and-center singer that invites you into her deceptively complex aural world. \nJoin us before the concert for a pre-show artist talk at 6:30 PM. Show starts at 7:30 PM. Stick around to dance the night away on our theater dance floor! Mexican eats will also be available for sale. \nAbout the Artist  \nPahua (’/pa-wah/) is a singer\, composer\, percussionist\, DJ\, and producer from Mexico City who mixes Caribbean and folkloric beats with electronics and percussion. Her voice floats between airy whispers and commanding leads\, inviting listeners into a deceptively complex aural world of self-love and empowerment.

Guided by his accomplished percussionist father\, Luis Quintero Sr.\, he started mastering the timbales from an early age. At just eight years old\, he was performing with “The New Generation”\, a group inspired by his father and uncles\, Carlos “Nene”\, Ricardo\, and Jesus “Chu” Quintero. By twelve\, he joined one of the era’s top bands\, “El Trabuco Venezolano”\, and a year later was playing alongside the famed salsa singer\, Oscar D’León. \nIn 1992\, Luisito moved to New York City\, swiftly becoming a mainstay in its Latin music and Jazz scenes\, recognized as a top percussionist and often serving as musical director. Unafraid to innovate\, he integrates a broad spectrum of percussion instruments\, such as timbales\, congas\, bongos\, drum sets\, and West African djembe and dundun\, into his performances. \nWith participation in over 700 music productions across genres\, Luisito boasts over 60 Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. His latest accolades were received in 2019 with Chick Corea & The Spanish Heart Band for Best Latin Jazz Album\, and in 2018 with Spanish Harlem Orchestra for Best Tropical Latin Album. \nIn August 2020\, Quintero unveiled the second production of his Grammy-nominated band\, co-founded with cousin and fellow percussionist Roberto Quintero\, Quintero’s Salsa Project\, titled “Tributo A La Dimensión Latina”.

SUMMARY:WBB Graphic Novel Book Club: Raging Clouds by Yudori
DESCRIPTION:Join us for September’s Graphic Novel Book Club pick: Raging Clouds by Yudori \nAmélie is a brilliant woman trapped in the restricting social mores of high Dutch society in the mid-16th century. Her marriage to Hans\, a swashbuckling merchant\, is a terrible match. While he charms the townsfolk\, at home he is her intellectual inferior and treats her with cruelty and sexual violence. Expected to be a devoted housewife\, Amélie can only be her true\, free-spirited self when Hans travels away on business — when she can explore the town alone\, lose herself in literature\, and study winged animals to learn about the mechanics of flight. She looks to the skies and dreams of flying far away. Her life changes when Hans returns from his journey with Sahara\, a slave mistress from a distant land. The two women are drawn to each other — each recognizing their confinement in a world dominated by men — and work together to seek their freedom. \nTold as a fiercely feminist story and spectacularly illustrated\, Raging Clouds is the dazzling graphic novel debut of Korean comic book artist Yudori. In her lush manga style\, Yudori imagines the period in rich detail with careful attention to settings and costumes\, while evoking the cultural and societal standards of the time. She creates complex women characters who grapple with indignity over their social position\, engage in lustful fantasies\, and ultimately relish in seizing agency in their lives. Raging Clouds is a powerful story about the role of women in society\, the reality of existing within a non-consensual relationship\, and the struggle to push back against the boundaries these women have been boxed into.

DESCRIPTION:A solutions-driven convening that makes the economic case for care.\n\n\nWhat becomes possible when care is treated as an economic investment rather than a private burden? \nThe Care Dividend is a solutions-driven convening that makes the economic case for care: affordable childcare\, supported caregivers\, mental-health readiness\, and healthy longevity are not peripheral social issues. They are essential infrastructure for a thriving workforce\, healthier families\, and a stronger New York. \nWhy now\nCaregivers hold together households\, workplaces\, and communities\, often without the systems\, information\, or support they need. Holden\, Director of Communications and Storytelling\, Gary Community Ventures\nElizabeth Wong\, PhD\, MPH\, Research Scientist\, Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity and Healthy Development at Boston University School of Social Work\nDr. Nicholas Jackson\, “Nick the Immunologist\,” immunology researcher and content creator\nDr. Darshini Mahadevia\, Co-Director of Healthy Workforces at the McKinsey Health Institute\nHari Sreenivasan\, PBS anchor who frequenly covers caregiving\, longevity and health\nDr. Bipin Subedi\, Chief of Psychiatric Services Bellevue Hospital\, sharing insights from mental health training and readiness\n\n \nWhat’s in it for you\nChildcare models employers are actually using\, plain-language guidance on recognizing and responding to mental-health crisis and new connections across sectors that rarely share a room. \nPlus light morning bites and lunch will be served. \nPresented by Epicenter NYC and URL Media\, the convening will extend beyond the room through trusted\, community-rooted storytelling and multilingual distribution. \nPlease note that Epicenter extends some complimentary tickets to ensure our events are representative of the communities we serve.
