SUMMARY:Xianix Barrera & Nueva York Flamenco City| Flamenco
DESCRIPTION:An intimate flamenco performance led by Xianix Barrera\, featuring guitarist Ricardito\, with musical direction by Alfonso Cid. A dialogue between dance\, voice\, and rhythm that honors tradition while exploring memory\, cultural inheritance\, and contemporary expression. \n8:00PM to 9:00PM (First Set) \n10:00PM to 11:00PM (Second Set) \nAdmission: Cover Charge: $20 (Mezzanine Level) \nFeaturing: \n\n\nXianix Barrera / Bailaora \n\n\nRicardito Sanchez / Guitarist \n\n\nAlfonso Cid / Cantaor\, Flutist\, and Musical Direction \n\n\nAbout Xianix Barrera:  \nXianix Barrera is a Bessie Award–nominated flamenco dancer\, choreographer\, and educator whose work channels a fierce\, unapologetic vision of femininity. Engaging themes of gender\, queer identity\, and social justice\, she approaches flamenco as a living\, evolving form. \nFounder of the Xianix Barrera Flamenco Company (2012)\, her choreography expands the language of flamenco while remaining grounded in its tradition. Her recent production Mujeres\, an all-female collaboration with guitarist and composer Antonia Jiménez\, reflects her commitment to re-centering female voices. \nTrained in New York and Spain\, she has performed alongside leading artists such as Isabel Bayón and Juan Ogalla at venues including The Joyce Theater and Lincoln Center. A Bessie Award nominee for Latido\, Xianix is also a dedicated educator\, leading workshops across New York City and contributing to the next generation of artists. \nAbout Alfonso Mogaburo Cid:   \nAlfonso Cid is a flamenco singer\, flutist\, and composer from Seville\, raised in the deep traditions of Andalusian flamenco. Formed within the cultural life of Triana and the historic Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena\, his artistry reflects a direct lineage to some of the most revered figures of the form. \nBased in New York City since 1997\, Alfonso has performed at major venues including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall\, Lincoln Center\, Town Hall\, and the Royal Albert Hall\, collaborating with leading dancers such as Pilar Rioja and María Elena Amaya. His work moves fluidly between traditional flamenco and cross-cultural exploration\, including projects that engage the Arabic roots of flamenco. \nHis career spans both intimate flamenco settings and large-scale international stages\, including extensive touring with Romeo Santos\, where he contributed vocals to the track Mi Santa alongside Tomatito. \nA dedicated educator and scholar of flamenco\, Alfonso has taught widely across New York\, developed lecture-demonstrations on flamenco structure\, and completed advanced studies in flamencology at the Universidad de Córdoba. His work continues to bridge tradition\, research\, and contemporary performance.

Her delightful\, non-techy talks inspire participants to tackle tasks they have been dreading and putting off for years\, so they can be photo-happier.

SUMMARY:Whistle Kit & "Know Your Rights" Materials Distribution
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our outreach efforts to build community and share KYR resources (including “red cards”) with our neighbors. \nWorking in teams\, we share information on ways our neighbors can prepare now for ICE raids: what to do if ICE comes\, what to do in case of detentions\, and where to find additional resources. Foreign language fluency is helpful\, but not necessary. (Generally\, most people will simply take the offered materials as they walk past you — few will stop to converse\, and even fewer will converse in depth.) \nPlease expect to be on your feet and outside\, and to carry a tote bag weighing a few pounds. \nThis action is rooted in principles of cooperation\, empathy\, and collective action. Effective community care involves building networks of mutual support and empowering ourselves to meet our collective needs.

SUMMARY:NYC Book Club with TOMDNYC: The Snakehead by Patrick Radden Keefe
DESCRIPTION:Join Tom Delgado (TOMDNYC) for October’s pick discussing The Snakehead by Patrick Radden Keefe! \nBook is NOT required to join! \nKeefe reveals the inner workings of Sister Ping’s complex empire and recounts the decade-long FBI investigation that eventually brought her down. He follows an often incompetent and sometimes corrupt INS as it pursues desperate immigrants risking everything to come to America\, and along the way\, he paints a stunning portrait of a generation of illegal immigrants and the intricate underground economy that sustains and exploits them. Grand in scope yet propulsive in narrative force\, The Snakehead is both a kaleidoscopic crime story and a brilliant exploration of the ironies of immigration in America.
