SUMMARY:Cristina Candela\, Gabriel González Tapia & Alfonso Mogaburo Cid | Flamenco | First Set
DESCRIPTION:Join Cristina for an evening rooted in the depth and tradition of flamenco. Through expressive dance and masterful live music\, the performance unfolds with intensity\, precision\, and emotional resonance — an intimate journey into the heart of this timeless art form. \nAdmission: $20: Cover at Mezzanine. \nFeaturing:\nCristina Candela / Bailaora\nGabriel Sanchez / Guitar\nAlfonso Cid / Cantaor; Flute\, and musical director \n8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (First Set) \n10:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Second Set) \nAbout Cristina Candela: \nSince 2007\, I have been working as a flamenco dancer. My experience spans a variety of settings\, including tablaos like El Patio Andaluz in Barcelona\, and international tours in Malaysia and Singapore with Chalachi. I’ve contributed to companies such as Maria Carrasco Cia and Apuchelando Cia in multiple roles: dancing\, choreographing\, and producing. \nI’ve also engaged in fusion projects\, notably with Anlage Cia in Granada\, and in artistic-educational initiatives. For instance\, I served as part of the ambassador group for the “Voices of Tomorrow” project under the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. \nMy involvement in the arts extends to film. I’ve acted\, danced\, and worked in production for several short and independent films. \nMy interests encompass all aspects of performing and audiovisual arts. I’m as fascinated with the spotlight as I am with behind-the-scenes work. From a young age\, I’ve been driven by a desire to create – to dance\, choreograph\, design scenographies. My foremost aim is to express my vision of the world as clearly as possible. \nTo this day\, the words of Pina Bausch echo in my mind: “Dance\, dance\, otherwise we are lost.” \nAbout Gabriel González Tapia: \nGabriel González Tapia (b. 1994) is a flamenco guitarist from Madrid known for his powerful accompaniment and deep sensitivity to the art form. He began playing guitar at age 14 and studied at the Casa Patas Foundation and the “Cañorroto” school in Madrid\, where he developed his foundation under the influence of flamenco’s most authentic traditions. \nHe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Flamenco Guitar from the Rafael Orozco Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba and a Master’s in Cultural Project Management and Leadership from Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. He is currently pursuing advanced studies in the Chair of Flamencology at the University of Córdoba. \nGabriel has studied with many of flamenco’s foremost guitarists\, including José Manuel Montoya\, Aquilino Jiménez “El Entri”\, José Jiménez “El Viejín”\, Manuel Parrilla\, Diego del Morao\, Dani de Morón\, Carlos de Jacoba\, Joni Jiménez\, Mario Montoya\, Jesús de Rosario\, David Cerreduela\, and Juanma El Tomate. \nAs an accompanist\, Gabriel has worked extensively in Madrid and Andalucía\, performing in venues such as the Círculo de Bellas Artes\, Teatro Monumental\, Corral de Comedias\, Centro Flamenco Fosforito\, and Sala Orive\, as well as in leading tablaos including Las Carboneras\, Torres Bermejas\, Las Tablas\, Casa Patas\, El Candela\, and Café Ziryab. He has accompanied dancers of national and international prestige\, including Adrián Santana\, Concha Jareño\, Rafa Ramírez\, Julio Ruíz\, La Popi\, Olga Llorente\, Rapico\, Salomé Ramírez\, Carlos Velázquez\, and Lucía Ruibal. \nInternationally\, Gabriel has toured in the United States\, China\, Mexico\, and Saudi Arabia\, including performances with renowned artists such as Esperanza Fernández and Iván Gallego. In 2023\, he earned 3rd Prize for Guitar Accompaniment in the Fundación Cristina Heeren competition in Seville. He currently lives in Triana\, Seville\, and works in close artistic partnership with singer María López. \nAbout Alfonso Mogaburo Cid: \nBorn in Seville\, the spiritual epicenter of flamenco\, Alfonso Cid embodies a living bridge between tradition and contemporary expression. Raised in the flamenco-rich neighborhood of Triana and shaped by the legendary Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena\, he absorbed the art form from its purest sources\, witnessing and learning from iconic figures such as José Mercé\, Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera\, Chocolate\, Chano Lobato\, Rancapino\, and El Pele. \nClassically trained at the Seville Conservatory\, Alfonso combines rigorous musical discipline with the raw emotional depth of flamenco “cante.” Since relocating to New York City in 1997\, he has established himself as one of the most respected flamenco voices in the United States\, performing at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall\, Lincoln Center\, London’s Royal Albert Hall\, Mexico’s Palacio de Bellas Artes\, and major international stages across North America\, Europe\, and Latin America. \nHis artistic journey spans collaborations with legendary dancers such as Pilar Rioja and María Elena Amaya\, as well as global tours with Latin superstar Romeo Santos\, including record-breaking stadium performances across the Americas and Europe. At the same time\, Alfonso has remained deeply committed to scholarship and pedagogy\, studying flamencology at the Universidad de Córdoba and teaching flamenco singing for over a decade in New York. \nEqually at home in traditional flamenco\, cross-cultural exploration\, and contemporary fusion\, Alfonso Cid brings to the stage a voice forged in Andalucía and refined on the world’s great stages — authentic\, commanding\, and profoundly moving
