SUMMARY:Queens Taste 2026
DESCRIPTION:Eat your heart out with dishes from across the most delicious borough on the planet at Queens Taste – QEDC’s annual fundraiser\n\n\nSave the most delicious date of the year\nJoin us on May 12 for the largest and longest-running culinary showcase in the most vibrant food destination in the world: Queens Taste 2026. \nWe’re once again bringing together more than 50 of the borough’s best restaurants\, foodmakers\, breweries\, and confectioners under one roof for an evening of unlimited sips and samples. But for the first time\, that roof is the stunning Sound River Studios in LIC – perched right on the East River with soaring ceilings and breathtaking skyline views. \n  \nWhat you’ll taste\nMore than 50 restaurants\, beverage purveyors\, and dessert makers are expected to offer samples of their products. Plus\, clients of the Entrepreneur Space\, a food-and-business incubator that QEDC operates in Long Island City\, will provide their artisanal specialties. And to wash it all down\, brewers\, wine makers\, and mixologists will be on tap – as well as a host of non-alcoholic fruit juices and teas. \nRestaurant recruitment is underway\, but here are some entities that participated in last year’s Queens Taste and are certainly invited to return: Alewife; Arepa’s Café; Austin Ale House; Ben’s Deli; Il Nonno Ristorante; Jora; London Lennie’s; Moon Man; Neir’s Tavern; O Lavrador; Ottomanelli’s Burgers & Belgian Fries; Punjab Dhaba Catering & Sweets; QNSY Sparkling Cocktails; Queens Curry Kitchen; Rincon Salvadoreño; Saar Indian Cuisine; Schmidt’s Candy; The Wine Room of Forest Hills; Tipsy Scoop; and Toodles & French. \n  \nWhere you’ll be\nAfter more than two decades\, we’re excited to bring Queens Taste to the LIC waterfront for the first time ever. Located at 4-40 44th Drive next to Anabel Basin\, Sound River Studios is a wheelchair-accessible\, gallery-style venue with high ceilings\, white walls\, large windows\, and skylights. It has a capacity of 450 guests who can flow easily from the cavernous indoor space to a 1\,300-square-foot outdoor terrace. \n  \nWhat it’s all for\nFinally\, Queens Taste 2026 supports a good cause. Proceeds go to the Queens Economic Development Corporation’s ongoing efforts to attract\, create\, and maintain jobs in the borough. Early Bird tickets cost $125 each (two for $200)\, but as QEDC is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit\, they’re partially tax-deductible as permitted by law.

SUMMARY:Albert Marquès – Flamenco Dance & Contemporary Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Albert Marquès – Piano & Flamenco Dance will perform with his duo\, delivering a dynamic jazz set that blends contemporary jazz and flamenco. \nTime: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm (First Set) \n9:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Second Set) \nAdmission: $20 Cover charge \nFeaturing: \n\n\nAlbert Marquès – Piano \n\n\nKaren Lugo – Bailaora (Flamenco Dance) \n\n\nAbout Albert Marquès: \nAlbert Marquès is a pianist and composer from a working-class industrial town outside Barcelona\, where he worked in factories while attending school. Shaped early by political awareness and the local punk scene\, his musical development was also influenced by jazz pianists such as Chick Corea\, Brad Mehldau\, Michel Camilo\, and Herbie Hancock. Largely self-taught\, he later completed formal studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona. \nFollowing his graduation\, Marquès undertook formative stays in the West Bank and Cuba\, experiences that deeply informed his artistic outlook. Back in Barcelona\, he became an active presence in the city’s jazz scene\, collaborating with leading musicians such as Marc Miralta and gaining recognition for a distinctive\, non-academic sound. \nHe later relocated to Paris\, where he immersed himself in the local jazz community\, performing with musicians including Rémi Vignolo and Pierre Perchaud\, and serving as pianist in drummer Leon Parker’s quartet. \nAt the age of 25\, Marquès moved to New York City to pursue jazz performance. There\, he became closely associated with his mentor Arturo O’Farrill\, who played a key role in his artistic development and professional trajectory. In New York\, Marquès established himself as a bandleader and collaborator\, working with artists such as Ari Hoenig and Spanish flamenco singer and saxophonist Antonio Lizana. \nBased in New York\, Marquès developed a personal musical language that brings together contemporary jazz and flamenco. He has released four albums as a bandleader and continues to perform internationally with a wide range of American and European musicians. \nIn addition to his performance career\, Marquès serves as Music Director at the Institute for Collaborative Education in New York\, a progressive public middle and high school in downtown Manhattan.

Let’s gather together\, share ideas\, and talk tech. \nSince a lot of us are in permanent WFH mode\, we thought it would be nice to have a reason to leave our apartments in the morning and interact with real live friendly faces in our neighborhood. \nThis is a host-free event with no specific agenda. Let’s meet up and chat in the morning: \n\nWhat are you working on?\nWhat tech are you learning?\nWhat tech questions do you have?\nWould you like some accountability to help you push ahead?\n… and more!\n\nBe sure to be respectful of our gathering place: purchase a coffee\, tip your baristas\, keep the place clean\, etc. \nLooking forward to seeing you!!

SUMMARY:Orchestra of St. Luke's + Joseph Parrish: Finding an American Voice: Burleigh and Dvořák
DESCRIPTION:Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL)\, joined by baritone Joseph Parrish\, celebrates the friendship between Harry T. Burleigh\, the pioneering Black American composer\, and Antonín Dvořák\, the renowned Czech composer that began when the two men met in 1892. Their collaboration\, rooted in spirituals and folk music\, helped shape a distinctly American sound that continues to inspire us today. \nOSL brings that story to the Flushing Town Hall\, joined by baritone Joseph Parrish in a program that weaves Burleigh’s original songs and spiritual arrangements with Dvořák’s Violin Sonatina in G Major–music born from the same conversation\, performed together in Queens. \nThis concert is part of Five Boroughs Music Festival’s season finale tour\, with OSL performing the same program across all five NYC boroughs: Hostos Community College (BRONX)\, Snug Harbor Cultural Center (STATEN ISLAND)\, Brooklyn Public Library\, New York Public Library (MANHATTAN)\, and Flushing Town Hall (QUEENS).

SUMMARY:Simón Cifuentes Band | Jazz
DESCRIPTION:A dynamic evening of jazz led by talented young bassist Simón Cifuentes\, featuring original compositions and fresh interpretations of classic standards. Blending bebop\, swing\, and contemporary improvisation\, the ensemble creates an energetic and expressive musical dialogue. \nTime: 7:30 pm. 8:30 pm (First Set) \n9:30 pm. 10:30 pm (Second Set) \nAdmission: $20: Cover at Mezzanine. \nFeaturing: \n\n\nTheo Kornblum — Sax \n\n\nTosh kachad   — Drums \n\n\nJojo Roses — Guitar \n\n\nSimón Cifuentes  —Bass and musical direction. \n\n\nAbout Simón Cifuentes Band: \nSimon’s band performs a blend of classic jazz standards and original compositions\, creating a musical journey through different eras of jazz. Their repertoire explores styles such as bebop and swing\, combining timeless melodies with Simon’s own creative voice. \nAbout Simón Cifuentes: \nSimón Cifuentes is a Colombian multi-instrumentalist and vocalist based in New York who\, at just 13 years old\, has already established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz and Latin music. He plays double bass\, tiple\, cuatro\, and piano — placing the double bass at the conceptual center of a musical proposal that is at once technically rigorous and deeply emotional. \nAt 12 and 13\, Simón became the youngest Latin musician to perform solo double bass concerts at the Blue Note in New York and São Paulo. He is currently a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra\, performing on stages including the Rose Theater\, Dizzy’s Club\, and the Appel Room. He has shared the stage with Winard Harper\, Ari Hoenig\, Patrick Bartley\, and Sam Dillon; received masterclasses from Christian McBride; performed for Wynton Marsalis at the Rose Theater; and joined Marsalis on stage in Chicago with the JALC Youth Orchestra. His ensemble “Charlie Parker” won the Best Combo award from DownBeat magazine. \nIn the Latin music sphere\, Simón reached the semifinals of La Voz Kids singing salsa at age 9 and has collaborated with Tony Succar\, Luisito Quintero\, Bobby Allende\, Fruko\, Tito Puente Jr.\, Jimmy Bosch\, and Carlos Henríquez\, among others. He was a special guest at Carlos Vives’ concert at Radio City Music Hall. \nHe is currently preparing the release of two albums: a live jazz record from the Blue Note São Paulo featuring original compositions\, and a salsa album with guest artists including Tony Succar. \nSimón Cifuentes is not a promise. He is already an artistic reality — embodying the present and future of jazz and Latin music.
