SUMMARY:Acrylics Workshops: Painting The Neighborhood (Urban Flora & Buildings) / Talleres de Pintura Acrilica: Refinando El Arte con La Ciudad de Inspiracion
DESCRIPTION:Acrylic Plein Air: Urban Flora & Landscapes \nLearn how to use the paint that everybody has in the back of their closet in a more refined way and build a new hobby and confidence to try masterpieces on your own. \nExplore the city outside (and inside pending weather) the shop in this hands-on acrylic class focused on urban flora and landscapes. Mostly taught plein air\, each session guides you through observation\, composition\, color mixing\, and expressive brushwork so you can capture trees\, street-side sightings\, and our neighborhood’s brick buildings. \nTake a single class to try plein air painting\, or enroll in a series to build technique and skill over time. All skill levels welcome; instruction adapts to individual goals so everyone enjoys demos\, group instruction and personal feedback — to create beautiful studies of your city observations.

SUMMARY:Double-Decker Activism Party: Whistle-Mania & Postcards
DESCRIPTION:We’re committed to ensuring our neighbors are prepared to protect themselves and each other\, know their rights should they come in contact with immigration authorities\, and are able to sound the alarm if they see a threat. AND we want Democrats to retake the House and maybe Senate in the Midterms to keep authoritarianism from expanding! \nAND we like homemade double-chocolate treats! \nJoin us for some community engagement writing news-boosting postcards AND assembling whistle kits: small bundles of important information and whistles. These kits are more than informational tools; they help build trust and start conversations in our community. Share in the joy of defying the forces that wish to silence\, oppress\, and divide us. \n“If you haven’t been to Whistle-Mania before\, I’d highly recommend it. It’s the ideal gathering for those of us who are a wee bit Type A because it gives you something to do with your hands and lets you feel satisfyingly productive while enjoying some lovely company.” \nPlease email JacksonHeightsIndivisible@gmail.com with any questions!

SUMMARY:Galapagos Puppet Theater Presents: The Blazing Fire Mountain and Its Princess\, A Monkey King Tale
DESCRIPTION:Join the mischievous Monkey King as he takes on a mountain of fire! When Monk Tang and his disciples find their journey blocked by a blazing fire mountain\, they learn that only a magical fan can put out the flames—but the fan’s owner\, the powerful Iron Fan Princess\, has no intention of lending it out. Will the disciples’ powers of transformation\, persuasion\, and puppet martial arts be enough to win the fan and save the day? \nGalapagos Puppet Theater brings this beloved episode of Journey to the West\, the 400-year-old Chinese epic\, to life through the delicate and acrobatic art of Bu Dai Xi (Taiwanese hand puppetry). Expressive silk scarves and vividly crafted puppets move to live music on erhu\, bamboo flute\, and percussion\, courtesy of celebrated folk musician Jimmy Zhao and his ensemble. It’s a 40-minute journey through martial arts\, mischief\, and magic! \nOur 2 PM show will feature a Q&A in Chinese with the Master of Taiwanese puppetry.
