SUMMARY:Shared Language: Community Writing as Care
DESCRIPTION:A free\, drop-in writing & reflection workshop for mothers and caregivers \nHosted by Nadia Tahoun\, artist and MSW candidate \nJoin us for a supportive\, participatory workshop where language becomes a space for care\, connection\, and reflection. Through carefully held prompts\, mothers and caregivers are invited to anonymously contribute words and phrases that gather in a shared visual field. As language accumulates\, repeated words grow more visible\, others shift and rearrange\, and unexpected poems emerge. \nTogether\, we reflect on the poetry that forms\, noticing what it reveals about our needs\, what we can offer\, and how care moves between us. The workshop holds space for the idea that some of us hold what others need\, and that care and solidarity can emerge horizontally through relationships. \nNo writing experience needed. Drop in at any time. \nThe Birthing Place Womb Bus will also be on site offering free perinatal and maternal health resources. \nFree and open to all. \nThis project is a part of the What Can We Do? Artist Grant program\, presented by Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) and is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our outreach efforts to build community and share KYR resources with local businesses and employees. \nNote: If you are not already involved with Jackson Heights Indivisible\, we will ask you to join us at one of our biweekly meetings so we can get to know each other a bit before joining us on an outreach shift. You can register for an in-person meeting or a Zoom meeting. \nWorking in pairs\, we meet owners\, managers\, and employees at their work sites to share information on ways we can prepare now for ICE raids\, what to do if ICE comes\, what to do in case of detentions\, and where to find additional resources. \nWe supply multilingual materials for employers and employees\, and scripts for volunteers. We begin with a 30-minute training session for volunteers who have not done this work before. \nThis action is rooted in principles of cooperation\, empathy\, and collective action. Effective community care involves building networks of mutual support and empowering ourselves (community members!!) to meet our collective needs.

This book is a tribute to Sappho’s rich and unique poetic work and a token of gratitude to the first and grand lesbian Muse in the history of humanity. \nHe conversado en sueños con Sappho. Ella me cuenta los desafíos de su relación con Atthi\, sus proezas para verla y estar juntas\, sus anhelos no realizados\, las lágrimas derramadas y la alegría de vivir felices en Santo Domingo luego de tanto pesar.
