The performance draws from his years of travel\, study\, and collaboration in Colombia — including time with the late maestro Diego Obregón — and his continued work as a composer in New York City. \nOver the past four years\, Dan’s voice has evolved through a blend of jazz harmony\, Afro-Colombian rhythm\, and the spirit of the American Songbook\, filtered through his California roots. The result is a bold set of original compositions and rich arrangements shaped by lived experience across cultures. \nA key part of this journey is Dan’s collaboration with Colombian vocalist Xiomara Torres\, whose voice and deep ties to Pacific Coast tradition bring this music to life with authenticity and soul. \nYou will hear airs like currulao\, aguabajo\, juga\, and abozao\, paired with intricate horn arrangements and interpreted by some of New York’s finest jazz musicians. \nThis project reflects the multicultural energy of New York—where folklore\, improvisation\, and innovation coexist—and presents Afro-Colombian music in a new\, elevated form shaped by Dan’s singular vision. \nAbout Dan Neville: \nDan Neville is an award-winning vibraphonist\, composer\, and arranger based in NYC and a 2025 recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship for Music Composition. \nWinner of the 2025 Springfest Vibraphone Competition\, Dan has performed in Europe\, South America\, and across the U.S.\, including the SFJAZZ Center and NBC’s Today Show. \nOriginally from Sonoma\, California\, he began on guitar\, later embracing the vibraphone. In San Francisco\, he collaborated with figures like John Santos and Anthony Blea\, while studying Afro-Cuban music and composition. \nHe earned his B.A. in Jazz Studies at California Jazz Conservatory\, touring Europe with the school’s top ensemble. His debut album Tenerife (2017) featured top Bay Area musicians and was celebrated for its refined Afro-Latin jazz. \nIn 2020\, Dan spent a year in Cali\, Colombia\, studying with Diego Obregón and recording with musicians from the Pacific Coast. His time there led to performances at Utopía and Tamborimba festivals\, and his feature in the documentary Viaje de La Marimba. \nSince relocating to NYC in 2021\, Dan has studied at William Paterson University\, collaborated with artists like Randy Brecker\, and performed regularly at Terraza 7. \nHe produced and arranged La Voz del Mar (2022) by Xiomara Torres\, which reached #1 on RMR’s Latin Jazz chart and was praised by DownBeat.

SUMMARY:Pasatono Trio | Traditional Music of the Mixteca\, Oaxaca
DESCRIPTION:Rooted in the musical traditions of the Mixteca\, Pasatono honors the living and the departed through violin\, bajo quinto\, jarana\, and voice—a celebration of memory\, community\, and renewal. \n7:00 pm to 8:00 (First Set) \n9:00 pm to 10:00 (Second Set) \nAdmission: $20 Cover Charge for Mezzanine \nFeaturing: \n\n\nPatricia García – Violin \n\n\nEdgar Serralde  – Jarana\, Vocals \n\n\nRubén Luengas – Bajo Quinto\, Vocals \n\n\nAbout Pasatono Trio: \nPasatono has dedicated its work to researching\, performing\, composing\, and promoting the musical traditions of the Mixtec culture. Through many years of exploration across Guerrero\, Puebla\, Oaxaca\, and the transnational Mixtec community\, the ensemble has learned directly from “living treasures”—luthiers\, bass players\, violinists\, composers\, and tradition bearers whose knowledge has preserved and shaped this rich musical heritage. \nPasatono is Rubén Luengas (bajo quinto and voice)\, Patricia García (violin)\, and Edgar Serralde (jarana and voice). \nPasatono’s musical journey has taken the sounds of the violin\, bajo quinto\, and jarana from Mixtec communities to major cultural institutions and stages throughout the United States and Mexico. The ensemble has performed at Lincoln Center in New York\, the Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C.\, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles\, the Bard Music Festival\, the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston\, El Museo del Barrio in New York\, Terraza 7 in Queens\, Barbès in Brooklyn\, the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian\, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival\, Stanford University\, the University of Oregon\, and\, most recently\, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival\, among many others. \nYet Pasatono’s music remains deeply rooted in the communities from which it comes—from Mexico City and the plazas of Oaxaca to fandangos in places such as El Jicaral\, Coicoyán de las Flores\, and Yucuquimi de Ocampo. \nPasatono resists leaving behind the sounds with which their grandparents forged their communities: the music of fandangos and celebrations\, the instruments that accompanied their dead\, and the songs with which they grew up. As contemporary Mixtecos\, they remain guided by a simple conviction: their origin is their destiny.

Guided by his accomplished percussionist father\, Luis Quintero Sr.\, he started mastering the timbales from an early age. At just eight years old\, he was performing with “The New Generation”\, a group inspired by his father and uncles\, Carlos “Nene”\, Ricardo\, and Jesus “Chu” Quintero. By twelve\, he joined one of the era’s top bands\, “El Trabuco Venezolano”\, and a year later was playing alongside the famed salsa singer\, Oscar D’León. \nIn 1992\, Luisito moved to New York City\, swiftly becoming a mainstay in its Latin music and Jazz scenes\, recognized as a top percussionist and often serving as musical director. Unafraid to innovate\, he integrates a broad spectrum of percussion instruments\, such as timbales\, congas\, bongos\, drum sets\, and West African djembe and dundun\, into his performances. \nWith participation in over 700 music productions across genres\, Luisito boasts over 60 Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. His latest accolades were received in 2019 with Chick Corea & The Spanish Heart Band for Best Latin Jazz Album\, and in 2018 with Spanish Harlem Orchestra for Best Tropical Latin Album. \nIn August 2020\, Quintero unveiled the second production of his Grammy-nominated band\, co-founded with cousin and fellow percussionist Roberto Quintero\, Quintero’s Salsa Project\, titled “Tributo A La Dimensión Latina”.

SUMMARY:WBB Graphic Novel Book Club: Raging Clouds by Yudori
DESCRIPTION:Join us for September’s Graphic Novel Book Club pick: Raging Clouds by Yudori \nAmélie is a brilliant woman trapped in the restricting social mores of high Dutch society in the mid-16th century. Her marriage to Hans\, a swashbuckling merchant\, is a terrible match. While he charms the townsfolk\, at home he is her intellectual inferior and treats her with cruelty and sexual violence. Expected to be a devoted housewife\, Amélie can only be her true\, free-spirited self when Hans travels away on business — when she can explore the town alone\, lose herself in literature\, and study winged animals to learn about the mechanics of flight. She looks to the skies and dreams of flying far away. Her life changes when Hans returns from his journey with Sahara\, a slave mistress from a distant land. The two women are drawn to each other — each recognizing their confinement in a world dominated by men — and work together to seek their freedom. \nTold as a fiercely feminist story and spectacularly illustrated\, Raging Clouds is the dazzling graphic novel debut of Korean comic book artist Yudori. In her lush manga style\, Yudori imagines the period in rich detail with careful attention to settings and costumes\, while evoking the cultural and societal standards of the time. She creates complex women characters who grapple with indignity over their social position\, engage in lustful fantasies\, and ultimately relish in seizing agency in their lives. Raging Clouds is a powerful story about the role of women in society\, the reality of existing within a non-consensual relationship\, and the struggle to push back against the boundaries these women have been boxed into.
